Mumbai, Aug 03 : Health experts have advised citizens to remain alert as hospitals in several parts of the country report a seasonal increase in infections commonly associated with the monsoon. Doctors are witnessing a rise in cases of viral fever, dengue, malaria, leptospirosis and gastrointestinal illnesses.

Medical professionals said fluctuating weather conditions, waterlogging and contaminated drinking water create favourable conditions for the spread of infectious diseases. They stressed that early diagnosis and prompt treatment can help prevent serious complications.

Hospitals have strengthened surveillance measures while state health departments are increasing awareness campaigns on sanitation and mosquito control. Local authorities are also conducting fogging operations and removing stagnant water from public spaces to reduce mosquito breeding.

Doctors recommend drinking safe water, washing hands regularly, consuming freshly prepared food and using mosquito repellents or protective nets. Individuals experiencing persistent fever, severe body pain or dehydration have been advised to seek immediate medical attention rather than self-medicate.

Public health specialists believe community participation is essential in limiting the spread of seasonal diseases. They urged residents to maintain clean surroundings and report potential mosquito breeding sites to local authorities.

With the monsoon expected to continue in many regions, healthcare officials have appealed for greater public awareness and preventive measures to minimise the burden of seasonal infections on hospitals.
