India, Aug 03 : The Union Government has intensified efforts to improve healthcare delivery in rural India by expanding its digital health infrastructure across multiple states. The latest initiative seeks to bridge the gap between urban and rural medical services through technology driven solutions.

Under the expanded programme, additional primary health centres will be connected with district hospitals and medical colleges using telemedicine platforms. Patients living in remote areas will be able to consult specialists without travelling long distances, reducing treatment delays and out of pocket expenses.

Officials said the expansion also includes wider adoption of electronic health records, enabling seamless access to patient medical histories across participating healthcare facilities. The move is expected to improve diagnosis, continuity of care and emergency response.

Healthcare workers will receive specialised training to operate digital platforms and assist patients with virtual consultations. Authorities believe the programme will strengthen preventive healthcare by allowing regular monitoring of individuals with chronic illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension.

The Centre stated that improving digital connectivity in the health sector remains a priority under its broader healthcare reforms. The initiative is also expected to enhance data driven policymaking while ensuring quality medical services reach underserved communities.

Public health experts have welcomed the expansion, noting that digital healthcare can significantly reduce disparities in access to medical treatment while improving efficiency across the healthcare system.
