NEW DELHI, Aug 26: Varun Beverages is set to diversify into the alcoholic beverages sector, marking a significant expansion beyond its established soft-drink bottling business.

The company has announced plans to enter the alcobev segment through a proposed wholly owned subsidiary as part of its broader diversification strategy.

Varun Beverages is one of PepsiCo’s major bottling partners and has built a substantial business around beverages across several markets. Its proposed move into alcoholic drinks would allow the company to explore a new consumer category and potentially broaden its revenue base.

The development comes as consumer companies increasingly look at adjacent segments to generate additional growth amid changing consumption patterns.

The company has also appointed Prathmesh Mishra as Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the proposed subsidiary, according to market reports.

The announcement triggered a negative reaction in the stock market, with Varun Beverages shares falling around 3% during Wednesday’s trading session as investors assessed the implications of the diversification plan.

Analysts are now expected to assess the proposed venture’s investment requirements, regulatory framework and potential contribution to the company’s long-term earnings.

The move represents a strategic shift for Varun Beverages as it explores opportunities outside its traditional carbonated beverages, packaged water and other non-alcoholic product categories.
