HYDERABAD, Aug 21: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States has been cancelled after the Centre denied permission for the trip, the Chief Minister’s Office said on Friday.
Reddy is currently in London and was scheduled to travel to Boston as part of an official TelanganaRising delegation. He was expected to visit the US before returning to Hyderabad on August 30.
According to a statement issued by the CMO, the delegation’s American tour was called off after the Ministry of External Affairs declined the required clearance, citing political considerations.
“The official TelanganaRising delegation led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has been forced to cancel their visit to the United States of America (USA) after the Ministry of External Affairs has denied permission,” the release said.
The CMO said the Centre had communicated that clearance for the visit had been denied “from the political angle.”
Following the decision, Reddy will return to Hyderabad from London on August 23 instead of proceeding to Boston, according to the statement.
The proposed US visit was part of the Telangana government’s international outreach programme under the TelanganaRising initiative. The cancellation means the Chief Minister will cut short the planned itinerary and return to the state earlier than scheduled.
