New Delhi, Aug 6: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the national squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, striking a balance between experienced campaigners and emerging talent as preparations intensify for the marquee continental competition.
The selection committee retained several senior players who have delivered consistently in international cricket while also rewarding standout performers from recent domestic tournaments and bilateral series. The move reflects the team’s long-term strategy of building depth ahead of future ICC events.
The selectors emphasised the importance of squad flexibility, with players capable of contributing in multiple roles earning preference. Team management believes the blend of youth and experience will strengthen India’s chances against strong Asian rivals.
Speaking after the announcement, officials said player fitness, recent form and adaptability to different playing conditions were key factors during the selection process. A few experienced names missed out after failing to recover fully from injuries, while promising youngsters received their maiden call ups.
The coaching staff is expected to conduct an intensive training camp before the tournament begins, focusing on match simulations, fielding standards and tactical planning.
Cricket experts have largely welcomed the squad, describing it as a balanced combination capable of competing across varying conditions. Attention will now shift to India’s opening fixture, where expectations remain high for another successful campaign in the Asia Cup.
