NEW DELHI: The Union Health Ministry has intensified nationwide preparedness measures to tackle seasonal diseases during the ongoing monsoon, directing states and Union Territories to strengthen surveillance, improve hospital readiness and ensure adequate availability of essential medicines.

Health authorities have advised state governments to closely monitor outbreaks of dengue, malaria, chikungunya, leptospirosis and water borne illnesses, which typically witness an increase during the rainy season. Hospitals have been instructed to maintain sufficient stocks of medicines, diagnostic kits and emergency medical supplies.

Officials have also urged local administrations to promote public awareness campaigns focusing on hygiene, safe drinking water, mosquito control and early reporting of symptoms. Rapid response teams have been asked to remain on alert to contain any disease clusters before they spread widely.

The ministry is coordinating with state health departments to review preparedness levels regularly and ensure laboratories can quickly confirm suspected infections. Enhanced disease surveillance is expected to help authorities respond more effectively to emerging public health threats.

Medical experts have advised citizens to avoid stagnant water, maintain sanitation around homes, consume clean drinking water and seek immediate medical attention if they develop persistent fever or other symptoms associated with seasonal infections.

The Centre said coordinated action between healthcare institutions, local bodies and community health workers will remain critical in limiting the impact of monsoon-related diseases and protecting vulnerable populations during the rainy season.
