London, July 19: England defeated India by 27 runs in a high-scoring third and deciding ODI at Lord’s on Sunday to clinch the three match series 2-1.

England posted a formidable 387 for three after being sent in to bat, with Ben Duckett producing a record breaking 141. Jacob Bethell added 91, while Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74 to keep the hosts in control.

India mounted an impressive chase, led by Rohit Sharma, who smashed 138 from 110 deliveries with 17 fours and five sixes. Shubman Gill also contributed a fluent 77 as the visitors remained in contention for a major part of their innings.

The momentum shifted when Bethell dismissed Rohit, while Sam Curran later claimed four crucial wickets, including Virat Kohli and KL Rahul. India eventually finished at 360 for seven after 50 overs.

The victory gave England the ODI series after India had won the opening match. The result also provided a strong finish to England’s white-ball campaign against India.
