ST LOUIS: Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa made a strong comeback at the 2026 Sinquefield Cup on Friday, defeating Dutch player Jorden van Foreest in the fourth round.

The victory came after Praggnanandhaa suffered a defeat in the previous round and helped him regain momentum in the elite chess tournament. His win took his tally to 2.5 points from four games, keeping him in contention among the leading players.

Praggnanandhaa produced a confident display against Van Foreest, converting his advantage into a decisive result. The Indian star’s performance was particularly important after his earlier setback, as the tournament enters a crucial phase.

The Sinquefield Cup features several of the world’s leading chess players and forms part of the Grand Chess Tour. Praggnanandhaa has been among India’s prominent representatives on the international circuit and is looking to build on his recent performances.

His latest victory also provides a boost ahead of the remaining rounds, where he will face further challenges against top-level opposition.

With the standings closely contested, Praggnanandhaa will aim to maintain his momentum and finish strongly in the prestigious event.
