LONDON, Aug 9: Borussia Dortmund defeated Arsenal 3-2 in an entertaining Emirates Cup encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, securing victory in the pre season showcase.

The German club produced an attacking performance to overcome Arsenal in a match that provided both sides with valuable preparation ahead of the new domestic campaign.

Dortmund’s victory came in a high profile fixture as Arsenal continued preparations for the upcoming Premier League season. The Emirates Cup has traditionally provided the London club with an opportunity to test its squad against leading European opposition.

The contest featured an open approach from both teams, with chances created at either end and five goals highlighting the attacking nature of the game.

For Dortmund, the result provided an encouraging boost before the competitive season begins. The German side used the match to assess its squad combinations and build match sharpness against a strong opponent.

Arsenal, meanwhile, will take lessons from the defeat as preparations continue for the new campaign. The fixture offered manager Mikel Arteta an opportunity to assess players and tactical combinations before competitive action resumes.

The Emirates Cup has been a regular part of Arsenal’s pre-season programme since its introduction in 2007. The competition has featured several prominent European clubs over the years and remains an important fixture on the club’s summer calendar.

Dortmund’s 3-2 success gave the visitors the final word in this year’s edition and added an entertaining conclusion to Arsenal’s pre-season preparations.
