New Delhi, Aug. 6: The Centre is accelerating the expansion of digital healthcare services to improve medical access in rural and remote parts of the country, with a greater focus on telemedicine, electronic health records and technology enabled primary care.

Health officials said digital platforms are helping patients consult doctors without travelling long distances, reducing waiting times and ensuring faster access to specialist advice. The initiative is also expected to strengthen continuity of care by allowing healthcare providers to securely access patients’ medical histories.

Experts believe the growing use of digital health technologies will enhance disease surveillance, improve treatment outcomes and support more efficient management of public health programmes. They added that integrating healthcare databases can help authorities respond more effectively during emergencies and disease outbreaks.

Medical professionals, however, stressed that digital expansion must be accompanied by improved internet connectivity, trained healthcare workers and robust data protection measures. They noted that safeguarding patient privacy and ensuring equitable access are essential for the long-term success of digital health initiatives.

The government has reiterated its commitment to modernising India’s healthcare system through technology driven solutions while expanding healthcare infrastructure in underserved areas. Officials say continued investment in digital health will help make quality medical services more accessible, affordable and efficient for millions of citizens.
