Mumbai, Aug 03 : A growing number of film actresses are choosing to reduce or completely leave their social media presence, citing concerns over online harassment, cyberbullying and the spread of deepfake content. The trend highlights the increasing pressure public figures face in maintaining a digital presence.
Among those reportedly stepping back are Aishwarya Lekshmi, Kayadu Lohar and Mamitha Baiju, who have spoken about the emotional strain caused by persistent trolling and abusive comments. What was once considered an effective platform for engaging with fans has, for many, become a source of stress and anxiety.
The decision has sparked wider conversations within the entertainment industry about digital safety and the responsibility of online platforms to curb harassment. Several celebrities have also urged stronger measures against fake content and identity misuse, particularly deepfake videos that can damage reputations.
Mental health advocates have welcomed the move, saying that setting boundaries on social media is an important step towards protecting emotional well being. The issue has also renewed calls for stricter enforcement against cyber abuse and better safeguards for public personalities in the digital space.
